苏菲简介

苏菲(Sophy Chen),本名陈丽华,中国当代女诗人、翻译家。“苏菲诗歌&翻译网”创办人。苏菲英语讲坛创办人兼主讲人。1975年生于陕西汉中略阳。毕业于西安外国语大学英文学院,在外语类院校任教至今。
现为“苏菲诗歌&翻译网”总编、中国翻译协会会员、国际诗歌翻译研究中心研究员。1989年开始汉语诗歌写作,2004年开始英文诗歌写作,并在各大报刊发表英汉双语诗歌和英汉双语诗歌翻译作品。曾参与汉英读本《中国新诗300首(1917—2012)》部分作品的英译及全书的英文校对。审译纯英文版《世界诗歌年鉴2013》、《世界诗歌年鉴2014》。
2012年,获国际知名英语诗歌专业网站 POETRY.COM 授予的“传奇诗人称号”,同年获国际诗歌翻译研究中心(IPTRC)颁发的2012年度“国际最佳翻译家奖”。2014年荣获“中国当代诗歌奖”(2013—2014)翻译奖。
出版英译诗歌集六部:《花动摇》(赵兴中原著)、《藏香》(女诗人紫影原著)、《生之瞭望》(杨若鹏原著)、《异调》(女诗人 绿袖子原著)、《胴体向前》(画家谭钧原著)、《白娘子诗传》(女诗人廖诗蝶原著)。

ABOUT SOPHY CHEN

Sophy Chen, Lihua Chen, the Chinese contemporary poetess and translator, is the founder of “Sophy Poetry & Translation Website” and “Sophy English Forum” and the leading lecturer of “Sophy English Forum”.In 1975, she was born in Lueyang County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province of China. She graduated from English Institute of Xian Foreign Studies University in English Literature, and she teaches English in a foreign language institute till now.
She is now a chief editor of “Sophy Poetry & Translation Website” , a member of the Translators Association of China and researcher of the International Poetry Translation and Research Center , She began to write Chinese poetry in 1989, and she began to write English poetry in 2004 and then she began to publish the original poetry (English or Chinese) and translated poetry (English to Chinese or Chinese to English) officially in newspapers and magazines. She translated a part of poems in the Chinese-English Textbook 300 New Chinese Poems (1917-2012) and World Poetry Yearbook 2013/2014 and she also proofed the three books.
She was awarded the “Legendary Poet” in 2012 by the international renowned English poetry website (www.poetry.com). In the same year she won the annual “International Best Translator” Award 2012 issued by IPTRC. In 2014, she won the Chinese Contemporary Poetry (2013-2014) Translation Award.
She translated six Chinese poetry collections into English, The Flower Swaying (2014), the original author, Zhao Xingzhong, Tibetan Incense (2014),poetess Purple Shadow (ZiYing), and The Outlook of Life (2014), Yang Ruopeng, Different Tunes(2014) by poetess Greensleeves, and The Body Forward(2015) by painter TanJun, A Poetry Biography for White Snake by Liao Shidie ,etc.

2.1)我们先用现代英语的读音规律来分析一下 “莎士比亚英语十四行诗”之三。诗文里面实心点表示重读,下划线表示轻读。这里特别说明一下:如果不懂得英语单词重音和句子重音的非英语专业的同学请你们下去补课。这里就不具体讲解为什么下面要这么标记句子重音了。(注意事项:单词下面的实心点和下划线很难编辑到单词正下方,希望大家注意)

2.2)现在我们严格按照五步抑扬格来分析。“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”之三。下面每个诗行用四个竖线隔开,隔出来的五个部分就是五个音步,就是五个2音节单位。就叫做五步抑扬格,外文名 iambic pentameter。五个2音节单位加起来就十个音节。里面每个竖线隔离出来的单词一个轻读一个重读。轻读是“抑”,重读是“扬”,一轻一重,故称抑扬格。就是“轻——重”格。下面诗文里面,我们还是用实心点表示重读,下划线表示轻读。我们先用这种规则画出读音规则,我朗读出来,再用现代英语语音规则朗读出来看看有什么不同。后来发现语言是动态的,语音流也是动态的。我们如果再用莎士比亚时代的五步抑扬格去读这首诗歌,就感觉比较绕口。不如平时读的顺溜!

从以上重读和轻读的点阵来看,如果用现代英语的读音规则来读,苏菲还未能在“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”中找到一种固定的点阵规律,每首诗歌的点阵变化似乎没有明显的规律。“苏菲英语十四行诗”中也似乎没有固定的点阵规律。也许就如同我在前面说的一样。英语诗句的轻重格或重轻格,其实就是英语句子的句子重音。你如果掌握了英语句子的重音,读起来自然就波浪起伏,优美动听了。英式英语的读音波浪起伏犹如浪涛席卷,美式英语的读音波浪起伏犹如起风的湖泊,波浪不大。当然我们把诗句套到五步抑扬格里面去读的话,那是有着非常严格的点阵规律的,这就看你读的时候是不是要按照这个框框去读了。

今天苏菲使出浑身解数终于打开了google(谷歌)搜索,在点击“苏菲诗歌&翻译网”的时候,在google浏览苏菲图片页里,无意间发现,苏菲英语十四行诗 之三 《晚香玉》 Sonnet 3 Buberose被美国英语诗歌精品网站PoemHunter.com制成朗诵视频,并被英语诗歌专业视频朗诵网站dailymotion.com收录,竟然还和莎士比亚、斯宾塞、约翰·济慈,等历代诗人英语十四行诗视频放在一起播放(网页网址)。这是啥时的事?

苏菲顿然生出无名的感动,便忍不住想在这里说几句,苏菲-Sophy 作为一个土生土长的中国人,自己写的英语诗歌十四行习作,竟然被英语世界的诗人们主动录制成视频,且和莎士比亚这样的十四行诗鼻祖放在一起播放。苏菲不知道此刻是该感到羞愧还是感动。当然最多的还是感动。

当苏菲第一次读到莎士比亚十四行诗的时候,那是他的第18首,当时很激动,背诵的很熟。曾经也一度从1)音节;2)五步抑扬格;3)篇章布局;4)诗行排列;5)以及押韵上做过细致的分析和体会。在背诵的过程中也一度被深深感动。谁知道有一天自己竟然突发奇想,也写出了一首苏菲自己的英语十四行诗。

1)音节:严格控制在140个音节。也就是每首诗14句,每个句子10个音节,一共140个音节

2)英语诗句的轻重格或重清格,其实就是英语句子的句子重音。英语里一句话里面由数个单词组成,在说话或者读的时候,你千万不能读得和汉语一样,每个单词一样重,有的单词要重读,有的单词要轻读,有的要连读和吞音。后来我发现,如果你按这个规律读英语,自然就是轻重格或重轻格了,无需再去拼命拼凑所谓的五步抑扬格了。就好比唐诗宋词,古汉语,我们现在读它们,感觉很押韵,如果我们再去按照它们的规律押韵就感觉很难,因为现代汉语的语音流发生了变化,再把汉语说回到古汉语就觉得别扭,不如现代汉语听得顺耳,因为我们天天听顺耳的是现代汉语呀!英语也一样,你按照你现在说话的语音流写英语诗歌,本来就很美,无需再去故意造作,如果你这么搞,读起来就不顺耳了。这道理是一样的;

3)篇章布局上难度就比较大了。莎士比亚的诗歌,一般都遵循两种篇章布局。一个是演绎法,一个是归纳法。也就是说,一般先给出主题句,在根据主题句,展开写,最后再给结论。要不然就是先分说,最后再给结论。这是英语写作最基本的篇章结构。苏菲在写“苏菲式英语十四行诗”的过程中就没能达到这样严格的篇章布局,“苏菲英语十四行诗”,是按照情感发展,自然书写的,也没有特别严格的篇章定式;

4)诗行排列上,“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”,一共四个诗节,前三节,每个诗节四句,第四个诗节是对偶句。“苏菲英语十四行诗”严格按照“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”的诗节排列;

5)在押韵上,“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”,一般都是严格按照:(abab cdcd efef gg)也就是隔行押韵,最后一句gg对偶句,韵脚一致。“苏菲英语十四行诗”没能做到严格的(abab cdcd efef)前三句押韵一致。有的诗,写的时候状态非常好,甚至是一韵到底,有的诗,个别字句韵尾没有完全押上,但是最后一句对偶句,总算是押上了。

6)“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”都是用罗马数字标号的,从SonnetⅠ— Sonnet CLIV (Sonnet 1 —Sonnet 154)的,每首诗是没有标题的,“苏菲式英语十四行诗”每首诗都是有独立标题的。

7)“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”都是有标点符号的,“苏菲英语十四行诗”是没有标点符号的。

8)“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”使用大量古英语,“苏菲英语十四行诗”统统用现代英语写成。

9)“苏菲英语十四行诗”有确切的写作日期。“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”没有标出具体的写作时期。

10)“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”基本是书写爱情的篇章,“苏菲英语十四行诗”是书写爱情、自然、生活等等各种题材。

在以下分析中,苏菲将遵照目前体会到的以上10点,给出系统详细的分析。以澄清国人对苏菲写英语诗歌特别是英语十四行诗的费解,和偏见。当你看完这份报告之后,你会明白原来中国人可以写英语诗歌,甚至是英语十四行诗。

大家从视频照片文字可以清楚的看出这二者之间的区别。当然那是要懂得英语和英语诗歌的人才行。现在我们从“莎士比亚十四行诗” 之三, Sonnet 3 By William Shakespeare开始分析:

1.1),我们先从音节上来系统分析。现在我们从第一诗节开始分析。一个句子,一个句子来分析。

Look in thy glass, and tell the face thou viewest
Now is the time that face should form another;
Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest,
Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother,

第一句:“Look in thy glass, and tell the face thou viewest”一共10个单词,每个单词都是单音节词,共10个音节,对吧!最后一个单词“viewest”由 view[[vjuː] 和est [ist],组成,连起来读[vjuːst], 算一个音节。

第二句 “Now is the time that face should form another”一共十个单词,前8个单词,是单音节词,“Now is the time that face should form”8个单词8个音节,最后一个单词 “another”[ə 'nʌðə],2个音节,加起来一共10个音节。事实上俺们从音标里面可以看出“another”[ə 'nʌðə] 在现代英语的发音是三音节词[ə][ nʌ][ ðə], 主要是后边的[ ðə]里面变出2个独立的音节[ð][ə]。那就是说,莎士比亚这首诗第一诗节的第二句,在现代英语里面差不多是多出一个音节出来了。

第三句“Whose fresh repair if now thou not renewest”8个单词,第一第二个单词是单音节、第三个单词“repair”[rɪ'peə] 是双音节词、4,5,6,7“if now thou not”这四个词也是单音节、最后一个单词“renewest” [rɪ'njuːst] 是双音节词。加起来一共10个音节。

第四句“Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother”也是8个单词,第一第二个单词是单音节词,第三个单词beguile [bɪ’gaɪl] 是双音节词、第四第五“the world”是单音节词、第6个单词“unbless”[ʌn'bles] 是双音节词、最后2个单词“some mother” [sʌm] ['mʌðə],一个单音节一个双音节,mother ['mʌðə] 和上边的“another”[ə 'nʌðə]一样几乎是三音节词。那么严格来说这第四诗句就成了11个音节了,不过当代英语诗人认为这是可行的,可以算作双音节。

第一诗节我们分析完了,总结下下。一共4句,每句10个音节,共40个音节。

我们接着看第二诗节。

第一句:“For where is she so fair whose unear’d womb” 共9个单词里面只有一个单词是双音节词“unear'd”(发音 un + ear +尾音d) uneared的略写[ʌniəd]。加起来10个音节。

第二句:“Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?”6个单词,三单词“the,of thy”是单音节,其它单词是双音节:“Disdains” [dɪs'deɪnz], tillage [ 'tɪlɪdʒ], husbandry ['hʌzbəndrɪ] 前2个单词是双音节词,最后一个是三音节词,加起来7个音节,再加上三个单音节词,一共十个音节。

第三诗节,一共4句,每句10个音节,共40个音节。

我们看最后一个诗节,第四诗节。

先看第一句: “But if thou live, remember’d not to be”除过remember’d= remembered [rɪ'membəd] 是三音节词之外其它都是单音节词,因此加起来一共10个音节。

第二句“Die single, and thine image dies with thee”除过 image ['ɪmɪdʒ] 是双音节其它都是单音节,加起来共10个音节。

第四诗节共2句,每句10个音节一共20个音节。

好的,我们把整首诗歌的音节加起来。第一、第二、第三诗节共120个音节,第四诗节共20个音节。总共140个音节,一个不多一个也不少。如果说多的话就是2个单词:“another”[ə 'nʌðə] 和 mother ['mʌðə] 所在的诗行各多出一个音节,但是当代英语写作的诗人认为是可行的。他们把它算作一个双音节词。

1.2)从音节上分析完“莎士比亚十四行诗”之三,之后,我们来看“苏菲英语十四行诗”之三《晚香玉》Sophy Chen’s Sonnet 3  Buberose。

现在我们仍然从第一诗节开始分析。

As I was young my mom planted some flowers
In front of our old wooden house in springs
In my memory they were peony, China rose…
But what I loved the most was the tuberose

先看第一句: “As I was young my mom planted some flowers”,9个单词除过“planted” [pla:ntid] 是双音节之外,其它单词均为单音节词,一共加起来10 音节。

第二句“In front of our old wooden house in springs”除过 wooden ['wʊd(ə)n] 是双音节之外,其它单词均为单音节词,一共加起来10 音节。

第三句:“In my memory they were peony, China rose…”memory ['mem(ə)rɪ],近似双音节词,peony ['piːənɪ] 双音节词,共四个音节,加上其它6个单音节词,一共10个音节。

第四句:“But what I loved the most was the tuberose”tuberose ['tjuːbərəʊz] 这个单词如果吞掉['tjuːbə] 结尾的[ə] 算是双音节词了。那么加起来一共算是10个音节了。

那么“苏菲英语十四行诗”之三《晚香玉》Sophy Chen’s Sonnet 3  Buberose, 第一诗节,一共4句,每句10个音节,共40个音节。

我们来看第二诗节:

In summer night it’s a nice time to me
You could sit in yard to listen the night birds
Singing on cliffs, insects singing in bushes
And look at the moon moving in night skies

第一句:“In summer night it’s a nice time to me”。“summer”['sʌmə]是双音节词。为了把音节控制在10个以内it is 缩略成It’s算一个音节。加起来一共10音节。

第二句:“You could sit in yard to listen the night birds”。 “listen” ['lɪs(ə)n] 是双音节词,其它都是单音节词,加起来刚好10个音节。里面“in yard”本来应该写成“in the yard” 但是为了不多出来一个音节,就省略了定冠词“the”。

第三句“Singing on cliffs, insects singing in bushes”。 2个Singing['sɪŋɪŋ]、insect [ˈɪnsɛkt-s-] 是双音节词,bushes [bʊʃ-iz-] , 算是单音节词,其它都是单音节词。加起来一共10个音节。

第四句: “And look at the moon moving in night skies”。 moving ['muːvɪŋ] 是双音节词。其它都是单音节词,加起来一共10个音节。其中“skies”本来应该用单数名词“sky”,为了末尾押韵,变成了复数。

第二诗节,一共4句,每句10个音节,共40个音节。

接下来我们来看第三诗节:

However, while your heart was beating at pace
With insects singing and in the sudden
From nowhere floating a ray of fragrance
In the moon a bunch of tuberose blossoms

第一句:“However, while your heart was beating at pace”。 However [haʊ'evə], beating ['biːtɪŋ] 2个单词是双音节词,其它单词都是单音节,一共10个音节。

第二句:“With insects singing and in the sudden” insects ['ɪnsɛkt],singing ['sɪŋɪŋ],sudden ['sʌd(ə)n] 都是双音节词,再加上其他四个单音节单词,一共10个音节。

第三个句子,“From nowhere floating a ray of fragrance”。nowhere ['nəʊhweə],floating ['fləʊtɪŋ],fragrance ['freɪgr(ə)ns] 都是双音节词,加上其它四个单音节词,一共10个音节。

第四个句子:“In the moon a bunch of tuberose blossoms”。tuberose ['tjuːbərəʊz], blossom['blɒs(ə)m] 是双音节词,加上其它6个单音节词,一共是10个音节。

第三诗节,一共4句,每句10个音节,共40个音节。

接下来我们来看第四诗节:

As these flowers always bloom in moon nights
Your great poem may be living in its fragrance

第一句:“As these flowers always bloom in moon nights”。always ['ɔːlweɪz],是双音节词,flowers[ˈflaʊə -z-],也可算是双音节词。其它四个是单音节词,加起来一共10个音节。

第二句:“Your great poem may be living in its fragrance”。living ['lɪvɪŋ],fragrance ['freɪgr(ə)ns]是双音节词,剩下7个单词是单音节词,这样就多出一个音节。或许我们把“living in”连读起来算一个双音节单词,但是这未免也太牵强了。这一句是超出10个音节了。事实上是11个音节。当然也是致命的瑕疵了。

我们把整首诗歌的音节加起来。第一、第二、第三诗节共120个音节,第四诗节应该是20个音节,但是,多出一个音节。总共141个音节。这一点“苏菲英语十四行诗”之三《晚香玉》Sophy Chen’s Sonnet 3  Buberose, 没能全部按照“莎士比亚英语十四行诗”之三,140个音节全押上。严格意义上这是致命的瑕疵。

望过那片当时
还属于葡萄牙的土地
也许是望了一眼之故
12年它向我招手
一封澳门国际诗歌节的邀请函
是我平生所收到的
第一个境外邀请
等我屡遭刁难
不厌其烦
办妥所有手续
只欠出境登机
有关部门下达通知
不能去……
也是在12年前
它被收了回来

而此时此刻
在这个春风拂面的冬夜里
我还是只能在黑暗的海上
在夜行船的甲板上望一望澳门
在祖国的领海
望祖国的领土
真是一种中国特有的高峰体验
仿佛乡愁是全体国民的必修课

苏菲下面的一点点小体会,算不上什么文章。现在列出来写成文本,希望学习外文,以及英语爱好者能从英语语音的角度,感受到英语乃至英语诗歌的音韵之美,也给英语朗诵爱好者一点点小启示。)

包容冰的这首诗“自慰的方式”翻译成英语,音韵效果很不错。下面让我们拿着汉语原诗和英语翻译文本一起来感受一下。我们先整体看看这首诗。这首诗有四个诗节。第一,第二诗节各四句;第三诗节五句;第四诗节三句。翻译文本诗节和诗句严格对应汉语诗歌文本的诗节和诗句。现在我们一个诗节,一个诗节来分析英语文本。在下面的文本里我把读音相同或相似的音用彩色字迹标出来,大家一看就一目了然。在分析文本之前,我先把英语和汉语诗文朗读一下。

 

好的,现在我们开始分析英语文本:先看诗歌标题:标题里面2个辅音“[l]”押韵。A Way to Console Myself

第一诗节:第一句,“S”连续押韵I live in a temple where no one burns incense and kowtows

temple”里面的“le [l]” 与标题里面两个词“Console Myself”发音近似,形成近似音。

整个诗节近似对仗:四个诗句连续四个以“I”开头,句首对偶;第二句与第三句纯对偶句:I am my abbot/ I am my monk (均为,主语+系动词+表语)

(为了便于大家看明白,我们把标题也列出来)

A Way to Console Myself

I live in a temple where no one burns incense and kowtows

I am my abbot

I am my monk

I chant to myself

第二诗节:两个“ing”、“d”、“s”押韵:第一句里的“running”和第三句的lurking隔行内部押韵;第一句里“wind”和“around”同一诗行内部押韵;第一行里“spy on my和第二行里“hide my”元音发音相同spy [spai],my [mai], 属于隔行内部押韵;第三行和第四行句尾押韵“wheatgrass/ flowers”,末尾发“[s] 音。

第三诗节:两个who has 行内对偶;第一行和第二行里面“has”里面的辅音“[s]”在本诗节里反复出现构成很美丽的摩擦音:who has / who has / tipof inscribing / seeking。朗读的时候如果注意读准这几个词汇里面的“s”是非常美的。这就看你发音如何的了。第一行末尾的“fortune / alone”押韵,都是“[n]”结尾;第三行里三个单词内部押韵“light / bright /night” 中间的元音都发[ai],结尾的辅音发 [t] ; 这个单词末尾的[t] 和第四、第五行里的单词内部押韵:light / bright /nigh/ dirt/ about; 最后一个诗行里面的“inscribing / seeking  /  nightingale” 末尾内部近似押韵。

还有陪伴他的一幅劳作之画。像大量的油彩

像久石让的《礼仪师之奏鸣曲》——
我听着听着,夏就出现在眼前

我想,我是在等一条鱼的出现
和画布上的白,十分相像

那些曾经在水面上收割月光的山体

It refrains its sensitive to Zen, and refrains from God’s test

On the sacrificial altar of wheat field, moonlight

A handful ear of wheat is a head higher than the sacrificial alter

As if there is the invisible pathology
At start, it is the feet body, the heart, and then trance

从远方

灯影朦胧,光倾倒让人生产欲望。
冬夜冷了
秋已经蜕下秋色衣裳
轻轻地,我把她的影子来想象。

穿越时空
